X34 Logic Analyzer
We think the affordable X34 logic analyzer is a great solution for looking at nasty problems when you have to probe lots of signals. And it is an inexpensive and convenient problem solver when you need to quickly see what is happening on a few signals.
The X34 logic analyzer can acquire data at up to 500MSample/s, is supported by free software and includes a free user-level programming package.
You can read more here, and see the specification here. Some of the standout features of the X34 are:
- Ultra-portable - fits in a pocket
- Powered from USB port - no additional power supply required
- 32 Signal inputs, at least 6144 samples deep, with sample compression
- 2 Clock inputs
- 500 MHz frequency counters on every channel
- Separate Trigger In and Trigger Out connections
- 500MHz sampling speed
- Applications run on any recent version of Windows
- Inexpensive
- Simple or Complex triggering
- Software upgradeable
- View captured traces on the display of your PC
And the X34 is bright yellow!

Cortino Cortex-M3 Development System
Following on from the hugely successful ARM-7, ARM-9, and ARM-11 families, the Cortex is the latest of ARM's 32-bit designs. We have built a low-cost development system around the Cortex-M3, and we have built it to be significantly compatible with the Arduino board, one of the icons of embedded system design. Welcome to the fast and powerful Cortino.
The Cortino is a complete development system for the 32-bit ARM Cortex M3 Microprocessor. In the popular Arduino format and pinout. From only $39.99.
You can read more here. Some of the standout features of the Cortino are:
- Based on the latest 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 processor
- Fast - 72MHz operation - with up to 512MBytes of on-chip Flash memory
- Numerous peripherals including multiple USARTs, I2C, and SPI ports, multiple fast 12-bit multi-channels ADCs, a multi-channel 12-bit DAC, multiple multi-channel timer/counters, and two watchdogs.
- Powered from USB port - no additional power supply required. Stand-alone operation also supported
- Easily programmed - can be reflashed via the USB port, with no additional hardware required
- Easily controlled - can be reset via the USB port or via a reset switch
- Fast serial port to a controlling PC, operating at up to 3Mbit/s
- Superb programming target for using development skills and resources from the PC world.
- Built-in debug via the USB interface, plus ARM 2x10 pin JTAG connector
- Inexpensive - 32-bit performance at 8-bit cost

X34 Probes
Probes are a tough design challenge. What you really want is a probe set which exactly matches the problem at hand, a probe solution which is exceptionally easy to attach to the target system, and one where the extra probe clips magically disappear when not needed. And all this at a reasonable price!
20-Way Grabber Set
For day to day use, this is probably the most convenient solution at a reasonable price. A single 16-channel grabber set is enough for most applications, and a second set can quickly be plugged in for the occasional bigger debug task.
- 16 channels with red miniature hooked test probes
- 2 ground connections with black miniature hooked test probes
- 1 clock in connection with yellow miniature hooked test probe
- 1 trigger in or trigger out connection with blue miniature hooked test probe
- 15cm color keyed cable
- inexpensive
The X34 can accommodate two of these probe sets. And buying two gets you a much better price!

20-Way Header
This is the most compact and inexpensive solution.
- a cable with a 20-way socket header on each end
- a 20-way pin header so that the socket on one end can be converted to a plug
- 15cm long cable, fitted with strain reliefs
- inexpensive
The X34 can accommodate two of these probe headers.

Other Probes
The X34 will also connect directly to 0.025" (0.635cm) grabber systems.
E-Z-Hook patch leads and XKM grabbers are available directly from E-Z-Hook and from Digikey. Pomona grabbers are available through a large distribution network, including Digikey and Newark.
Check with your distributor - other probing solutions may be available.
